I know what you mean. For such a go-ahead, dynamic, let’s-get-it-done kind of nation, they seem oddly backward in so many ways.

Take the way they speak English, for instance (this is a symptom, not the disease). Much has been said about the differences between British and American English, but it’s usually that they are using words and grammatical constructions that were in use at the time of the founding fathers, while we’ve moved on a bit.
